YOUR IMPORTANCE TO A SUCCESSFUL HIRING PROCESS

In today's competitive job market, where qualified candidates are in short supply and high demand, a slow and laborious hiring process is simply not acceptable. Those who are most qualified to work for you will do their own thorough evaluations of you as an employer.

Some of the best hiring managers I've worked with have worked closely with HR professionals to make the hiring process go more quickly and smoothly. After all, that is a potential employee's first impression of your company's ethics.

To make it easier to find and hire talented people, it's important to realize that the company's future success depends on hiring people with better skills and experience.

Maximizing Your Recruitment Success in Five Easy Steps:

Concise Summary.

The person in charge of hiring must give a detailed description of the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to do the job well. Although a detailed job description is helpful, a serious recruiter will also want to know how the open position fits into the larger organization, who the position reports to, what kind of training and support they can expect, and what kind of skills the other employees will need to succeed in their roles.

Feedback.

Top hiring managers make it a priority to carefully look over all applications and let candidates know quickly if they should be called in for an interview. This answer is important because it helps the recruiter narrow down the search, and it should be given as soon as possible (within a day or two at most) after the candidate report is received.

Interviewing. Be hasty or regret it later!

In a market where there are a lot of applicants, interviews should be set up as soon as possible instead of waiting for more applicants. Top candidates often talk to other companies about job opportunities. You could lose them if you delay. Nothing is more discouraging to job candidates than a long hiring process with lots of interviews. Candidates should be given timely feedback from the hiring manager following each interview.

Transparency.

Candidate honesty during the interview process will help you find the best fit. Tell them in advance if a pre-employment medical or police check is needed, or if a second interview with a more senior manager is the next step. If hiring approval is needed from more than one manager, you could do a panel interview instead of having the candidate come back for multiple interviews in a row.

Examining one's past.

In addition to background checks and pre-employment physicals, checking work references is an important last step in the hiring process. If a candidate has the right knowledge, skills, and track record, and if reference checks come back positive, an offer should be made right away.

In the current job market, hiring managers who take the initiative to make sure the process goes smoothly and quickly have a better chance of getting and keeping top talent.
